1) Both Raymond and Mr.Dees are responsible for the death of Katie Mackey. The both of them kidnapping her resulted in her death. Mr.Dees was aware that Raymond was out of his mind and that he was going to end up doing something disasterous. Mr.Dees never told the police or the Mackey family Katies where abouts so he should be held as equily accountable as Raymond. Mr.Dees said that he truly loved Katie, but he had the chance to help her and chose to let her die. Although, i do think that Raymond deserves more charges only because he is the one that committed the act of murder and dumped her body. He's the one that took her into the woods and cut her throat. Katie Mackey was an innocent child that had her life stolen from from her by a drug addict and a mentally unstable teacher. Both Raymond and Mr.Dees deserve to be punished by the full extent of the law, life in prison without the possibility of parole.
2) Lee Martins style of writing was new to me, he kept me intrigued through out the entire book. Lee Martin grabs the readers attention and keeps them turning the pages despite knowing that the end will not be a good one. Mainly because of the fact that you dont know the full extent of Mr.Dees involvement until the very end. The build up to the end is incredible, you just want to know what happened. The end is both tragic and upsetting, i kept hoping that Katie would survive long enough to come back to her family, but unfortunantely, she didnt.
Is there anyone else, other than these two men, that you can say contributed to this tragedy? If so, who and in what ways might they have contributed to this tragedy?
ReplyDeleteWhat specifically is it that Martin did (with the actual writing), that intrigued you more than other authors of other novels had not done?
1) Technically, Raymond and Henry are the ones that committed criminal acts, but you can say that many people contributed to Katies death. For example, her father contributed to her death by giving her a hard time about returning her book to the library. Her parents could have drove her, or kept a better eye on her. That is how they contributed to her death, but they couldnt have known that she would be kidnapped that night.
ReplyDelete2) This is the first time that an author ive read has went from one characters perspective to another persepctive every other "chapter". He wrote it to where you hear each characters thoughts, you can almost relate with each character because you get to know them each soo well. It was a tough read at times because he would confuse you by approaching new questions but still leaving you answerless. Throughout the whole book i wasnt sure of anything until it was all revealed to me at the end that Henry and Raymond were in on this together..whether they intended on killing Katie or not.
